A Plumber’s Earnings By The Industry

Plumbers have a large number of industries to choose work from, depending on their specialties and interests. As a plumber, you can find work in the construction industry, in the residential and commercial plumbing industry, or work for the government. Not all plumbers’ earnings are the same in all industries. You’ll find a wide distribution of wages depending on whom you decide to work for. These are some 2004 figures based on the U.S. Department of Labor:
  • The highest plumber’s earnings are made by those who work in the natural gas distribution industry at $23.86 per hour.
  • A plumbing professional who worked in nonresidential building construction made $21.55 per hour.
  • Plumbers who worked for building equipment contractors made $19.85 per hour.
  • A plumbing professional in the utility system construction industry made $18.29 per hour.
  • Plumber’s earnings for those who worked for the government were $16.30 per hour.
